Reading Updates: In reading, we learned a lot this week! First, we learned that -ing has different rules at the ends of words. One rule is to drop the e if it is a long e word that has a magic e at the end of the word. Another rule is if it is a short vowel word, you double the last consonant before putting ing. Next, we learned contractions. There are two words, and a contraction helps to make it shorter, like do not--> don't. Third, we finished the Lorax book. We learned the Lorax because we are learning about when authors use words that explain how something feels, smells, what it looks like... our senses. We also read the Lorax because he is a leader. Next, in reading, we learned long vowel sounds. Math Updates: In math, we learned a lot! First, we learned about doubles facts. For example, 4 + 4 = 8. We learned doubles because it makes it easier to add... we can memorize them! Second, we learned about how to add 10 and how to subtract 10. For example, 10 + 10 = 20, or 59 - 10 = 49. Then, we learned about adding two digit numbers! Adding two digit numbers that are too big to count on your fingers we can use strategies. For example, 57 + 42. We can do 7 + 2 (9), and then we can add the 4 and the 5, which is 9, and it's 99!
