Reading Updates
By: Riley, Jacob, Charlie, Jack, Lily, and Mila This week, we did a lot of fun stuff in reading! First, we did a lot of adjective work. For example, we wrote adjectives about people, places, and even each other! Next, we learned sound spelling patterns that can make the long U sound. After that, we did our word sorts! For example, the headings are oo, ui, u, u_e, and oddball! We even played tic-tac-toe for long U! This is how you play. If you get the long U words in a row, you win! By the way, we split up into teams! Reading was amazing! Math Updates By: Amalie, Adam, Alex, Naomi, Isaac, and Sofia This week in math, we learned a lot! First, we learned 2D and 3D shapes. We also made 1 cube, a rectangular prism, and a cylinder! A cube has 6 faces. It also has 12 edges, and 8 vertices! We learned a lot in math! Special Events By Brody, Preston, Troy, Becca, Ross, Olivia G., Olivia R., and Phoenix This week, we did a lot of special activities! First, we went to the fifth grade music show and the name of the show was The Walden Radio! Next, it was St. Patrick's Day! We saw notes in Riley's desk, Ross' desk, and Becca's desk! Reading Updates
In reading this week, we learned a lot! First, we read about Benjamin Franklin. Ben Franklin was a leader who never stopped trying. He created things, like swim fins and the lightning rod. The lightning rod protected houses from lightning! He also made a library chair with steps! Next, in our guided reading groups, we learned about leaders in our community, like firefighters and police officers! Then, we did a Nearpod lesson to help us learn about adjectives. Adjectives are describing words. For example, there is a tall tree in the forest. In this sentence, tall is the adjective. It was so much fun! Math Updates In math, we learned a lot of new stuff! First, we learned about 3D shapes. 3D means 3 dimensional. It has depth! It is not flat. In math on Thursday, we made a cube. A cube has 6 faces, 8 vertices, and 12 edges. We also finished learning all about 2D shapes. Dr. Lubelfeld's Read Aloud Dr. Lubelfeld is our superintendent. That means he is the leader of all of the schools. He came to Walden to our classroom to read to us! He brought an interactive book. That means that when you hover a device on top of it, it starts moving! It even looks like characters from the book are in our classroom. Mrs. Faust helped him! The book was awesome! We told them they can come back any time!!!!!!!!!! Reading Update By: Sofia, Isaac, Naomi, Mila, Alex, and Preston This week, we learned about Rosa Parks. She is a great leader because she stands up for people! After that, we learned contractions. For example, for would not becomes wouldn't. We also reviewed long A and short A. We also reviewed short E and long E. We also reviewed short I and long I! Also, short O, short U, and long O and long U. Last, we learned -ed endings of words. We love reading!!! Math Update By: Lily, Phoenix, Parker, Lindsay, Adam, Olivia, and Becca This week in math, we started learning about geometry! For example, a square's defining attributes are that it has 4 sides, 4 corners, and two sets of parallel lines. Also, the sides are all the same length. Also, we learned about perpendicular lines that meet at a 90 degree angle. We learned about other shapes too! We had a lot of fun in math! Special Events Update By: Olivia R., Jacob, Ross, Amalie, Charlie, and Jack In class, we had a lot of fun! First, we did the Kindness Connection. We did for the veterans that came back from war. Next, we had four groups for our Readers Theater. Readers Theater is where you act out a story. We are performing for kindergarten!! Last, it was Dr. Seuss' birthday! We made hats!
